1.2 Word Building:
There are pairs of antonyms in this text, for example, positive – negative.
Exercise: Please give the antonyms of the following phrases请给出下列词的反义词。

II. Structure
2.1 Combine the two simple sentences into a complex one by using “so … that” or
“…so that …” (如此…以至…). Look at the examples first:
Examples:
They spend so much time expecting the worst that they are almost disappointed if things go well.
他们花如此多的时间以防坏事情发生, 以至当事情进展顺利时他们反而失望。
They worked so hard that they skipped lunch in order to save time.
为了省时间,他们工作如此努力, 以至中午饭也不吃了。
Exercise:

2) My mom so worried about my brother. /My mother fell ill.
3) He drank too much to unwind. /He became drunk and proved silly.
4) She scheduled too many things. / She was overwhelmed by the stress.

Or: He rehearsed his presentation so many times that his performance won a big applause.
2) My mom so worried about my brother that she fell ill.
Or: My mom worried about my brother so much so that she fell ill.

Or: Drinking so much to unwind that he became drunk and proved silly.
4) She scheduled so many things that she was overwhelmed by the stress.
2.2 In English if the antecedent (先行词) is indefinite pronoun (不定代词) such as“something”, “somebody”, etc., the adjective phrase that modifies the antecedent should be put after it.
Example: Stress can result from something positive.
Exercise: Translate the following phrases into Chinese.

III. Translation: Translate the following sentences into Chinese.
